James Scarbrough (Attorney)
James (“Jim”) Scarbrough earned his Juris Doctor from UNC School of Law in 1974. He served as a law clerk to a NC Court of Appeals Judge, was an Assistant Attorney General, and worked as special counsel to the Judicial Standards Commission. In 1980, he moved to Concord and began private practice. Jim and his wife of 41 years, Jean Scarbrough, have raised two children who both live and work in Concord: Anna Bryant, an ICU nurse at CMC-Northeast, and John Scarbrough, also an attorney. Jim is also a proud grandfather of three.
John Scarbrough (Attorney)
John Scarbrough earned his Juris Doctor from UNC School of Law in 2010. He has had the privilege of working alongside his father since becoming licensed. Learning from his father’s experience in handling over 100 appellate cases, John has argued before the NC Court of Appeals, the NC Supreme Court, and the Full Commission of the Industrial Commission. He has practiced in the NC Business Court, as well as the Federal Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also been admitted to the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Madeline J. Trilling (Attorney)
Madeline J. Trilling (“Maddy”) is a land use litigator who joined the Firm in June of 2017, after previously practicing in Charlotte. Maddy specializes her practice primarily on zoning challenges, municipal law, homeowners’ association disputes, and other land use issues, with experience at the trial court and appellate levels.
Maddy was fortunate enough to be awarded Appalachian State University’s Chancellor’s Scholarship, and after graduating with honors in 2010 with a B.A. in political science and history, remains a die-hard Mountaineer Football fan. After college, Maddy attended the Charleston School of Law, where she was the Senior Research Editor of the school’s flagship publication, the Charleston Law Review. Maddy earned her Juris Doctor in May of 2014, graduating from Charleston Law with honors.
